Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island called West Island. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of diverse communities. People who have never been aware of it frequently mistake it for a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa. The first goal she had was to become a dancer. But, a growing increase caused her to surpass her dance partners she was able to have. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. When I surpassed any male partner then I slowed down. Many dancers make the transition into acting. As for the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who nudged her into this path. She was recommended by a teacher to find a role in school's annual production. She was the teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual show. It led to her receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. Over the last 20 years, her work has been featured on both the small and large screen. Her work gained most fame when she was offered the part as Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale, a series that was filming over 10 years ago.
