Taylor began recording ASMR using her phone, and later uploaded the videos on YouTube. PewDiePie featured her in his game video just after she hit 50k subscribers. This was about one and a half months following the release of her first video. Taylor quit making videos about two months, when she had close to 100 000 users. Taylor put all of her videos into private because of technical difficulties with the new equipment. After a month long break, she began making videos in the new year, such as the famous ASMR 10 Triggers to Help You sleep (35 million views by august 2022). ASMR 20, Triggers for Sleeping, was uploaded in July of 2017 and was followed by more than 38 million users. In August 2017, she appeared interviewed by Shane Dawson for his video. Shortly after, she was able to reach a million YouTube subscribers. Wired UK estimates that her YouTube advertising revenue was $1,000 per week in February 2019.

Helfer was raised in rural Donalda, Alberta, Canada, to Dennis and Elaine Helfer. Her parents are born to German, English, Swedish and Norwegian origin. She attended her school, the William E. Hay Composite High School which is located within Stettler (Alberta). The three sisters Tammy, Tara, and Trena were also employed by her on the family farm. When she was waiting in theater line the scout of a modelling agency observed Helfer.
